WHY MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS?

Mental health issues are more common than we think. Around 7.3 million or 45% of Australians aged 16–85 will experience a common mental health- related condition such as depression, anxiety or a substance use disorder. This means someone in close friend circle, work mate, family, community, or even yourself may suffer the impact of mental health illness at some point in your life.

Mental health issues do not discriminate, anyone can develop mental illness, however the risk increases when people are exposed to negative life events including loss, exposure to traumatic events, the refugee experience and journey, acculturation, alcohol and other drug use, chronic pain, racism and discrimination, family system breakdown, domestic and family violence etc.
